Recognizing Achievement
In an effort to acknowledge outstanding effort and excellence by individuals, units and Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting in program delivery and fostering opportunities in youth ministry, NCCS offers several awards and recognitions.
Individual Awards
College Scholarships – NCCS Scholarships are awarded to service-oriented high school seniors who are Catholic Scouts in a BSA Program and continuing their education in college. There are now 10 scholarships totaling $27,000 being awarded each year.
Duty to God Recognition – This recognition can be made to a scout, a Catholic Scouting leader, a parish or Catholic School leader or another person who utilizes Catholic Scouting to instill in Catholic adults and youth the tenets of the Catholic Faith, furthering the mission of Catholic Scouting. There are no specific requirements to complete; this award is made at the discretion of Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting.
Adult Recognition – There are several recognitions available for adult leaders. Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting can recognize Catholic Scouting leaders, parish staff, school staff, clergy or others for their support of Catholic Scouting.
Unit Awards
Pope Paul VI National Catholic Unit Excellence Award – Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting make this award to units that demonstrate that they are providing a quality program in the following areas: adult training, unit service, religious emblems, religious activities, and vocational opportunities.
Activities Award of Excellence – NCCS established the Activity Award of Excellence to recognize outstanding religious activities developed by Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting or unit leaders. NCCS seeks to share information about these activities with other Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committees on Scouting and unit leaders, so that they can use the information to plan and organize their own events.
Diocesan Awards
Quality Award – the annual Quality Award is to recognize those dioceses and eparchies that promote and achieve a quality Catholic Scouting program. It is an opportunity for the NCCS to salute those dioceses and eparchies that truly deliver exceptional programs to youth members at all levels of Boy Scouts of America programs.
